This fact sheet offers a detailed review of the comprehensive immigration reform legislation approved by the U.S. Senate in June 2013 and compares its major provisions with those of the five targeted immigration bills approved by the House Judiciary Committee and the House Homeland Security Committee.

The side-by-side analysis is the latest in a series of issue briefs published by MPI focusing on key aspects of the immigration policy debate. Earlier briefs have provided a demographic overview of the unauthorized immigrant population in the United States; examined how the Senate-passed immigration legislation would remake the legal immigration system; analyzed existing visa categories, wait times, and who is in “the back of the line;” and examined low-skilled immigration.

All of the briefs as well as other MPI research focusing on the U.S. immigration system and timelines of major U.S. immigration laws dating to 1790 and policy developments since 1986 can be found here.
