Refugee and Forced Displacement Initiative

Advancing evidence-based research, dialogue, and policy solutions to address forced displacement, centering refugee lived experiences, self-reliance, and the role of faith.
A multigenerational group of refugees in Chad

The Refugee and Forced Displacement Initiative (RAFDI) expands the space for new perspectives, constructive dialogue, and sustainable solutions to address global displacement. Through research, convenings, and stakeholder engagement, the Initiative advances policy approaches that center refugee lived experience, livelihoods, self-reliance, host-country integration, and the role of faith. Drawing from a human development approach, RAFDI translates evidence-based analysis into practice, focusing on protracted refugee situations in East Africa, global trends, host-country policy environments, and faith's role in refugee resilience.

Originally established at the Wilson Center in 2022, RAFDI joined MPI in 2025. For more on the initiative, click here.
