Willy Mafuta

Dr. Willy Mafuta is an Adjunct Professor at Princeton Theological Seminary and Pastor at Hopewell United Methodist Church in New Jersey. A renowned scholar of African religions, migration, and globalization, Dr. Mafuta previously served as the Director of the Center for Religion, Refugees, and Migration at Drake University and as a Research Fellow at the Institute of Religion and Governance at the University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. 

He holds a PhD in religious studies from the University of Ottawa, Doctor of Theology from the University of South Africa, an MA in development economics and international development from the University of Iowa, an MA in theology from Wheaton College, and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Witwatersrand and Protestant University of the Congo.

He is a member of the Advisory Council for the Religion and Refugees Project from MPI’s Refugee and Forced Displacement Initiative.
