Amisah Bakuri

Dr. Amisah Bakuri is an Assistant Professor at the School of Religion and Theology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specializing in the role of religion in culture and the everyday lives of people. Her research focuses on wellbeing, gender and diversity, and the role of religion for the African diaspora in the Netherlands, Canada, and Ghana. 

Dr. Bakuri holds a PhD in anthropology from the University of Amsterdam, an MPhil in modern history and international relations from the University of Groningen, and a BA in history and political science from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

She is a member of the Advisory Council for the Religion and Refugees Project from MPI’s Refugee and Forced Displacement Initiative.
