Susan S. Kim received her PhD from the Department of Sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her doctoral dissertation research examines the varied effects of culture, religious participation, and ethnic institutions on the academic achievement of second-generation Korean and Filipino adolescents, with a special focus on gender differences.
