Our Mission

MPI is guided by the belief that countries must have sensible, well-thought-out immigration and integration policies to ensure the best outcomes for immigrants, receiving societies, and sending countries alike.

To support this, MPI:

• Provides accessible and timely data, research, and analysis on the major issues for which policymakers and the public need information
• Pursues research that fills major gaps of understanding around migration trends and policy
• Assesses the effectiveness of current policies, as well as the impact of immigration on labor markets, educational outcomes, and social cohesion
• Promotes a trusted space for dialogue and a series of learning opportunities around ways to address immigration and integration issues
• Provides technical assistance to policymakers, practitioners, and nongovernmental organizations
• Develops innovative policy ideas to address immigration and integration challenges more effectively.

In addition to these core research programs, MPI has had a wide range of projects and initiatives over the years. These have included the Independent Task Force on Immigration and America's Future, the E Pluribus Unum Prizes celebrating exceptional U.S. immigrant integration initiatives, a joint project between MPI and the European University Institute on improving European and U.S. immigration systems, the Young Children in Black Immigrant Families Project, initiatives focused on intersections between immigration and the U.S. labor market and human services, both a Regional Migration Study Group and North and Central American Task Force on Migration examining shared regional migration challenges, and Beyond Territorial Asylum seeking to reimagine the global protection system.
