U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas discusses the application process and policies that the agency announced to implement the administration’s deferred action program. Director Mayorkas’ public appearance came four days after USCIS outlined the specific criteria for eligibility. His presentation was followed by a panel discussion on additional questions and challenges of implementing the new program. Reflecting on experience, relevant research, and the unique character of the deferred action program, panelists offered analysis and recommendations for how USCIS can most effectively implement the program to meet the needs of eligible applicants and their communities and of the government agencies responsible for the program.
