Policymakers, researchers, advocates, and others rely on the American Community Survey (ACS)—the U.S. Census Bureau’s annual large-scale household survey—for data on U.S. residents, including immigrants. The ACS includes detailed information about immigrants such as where they were born, whether they are naturalized U.S. citizens, how long they have been in the United States, and their demographic, human-capital, and socioeconomic characteristics. It also includes very large samples that allow for analysis of small populations at the state and local level.
