Raúl Ramos

Raul Ramos is Assistant Professor in the Department of Econometrics, Statistics, and Spanish Economy of the University of Barcelona. His areas of expertise include the analysis of regional labor markets and, in particular, the analysis of human capital, wage differences, and immigrant integration.

Dr. Ramos is also Senior Researcher in the Grup d’Anàlisi Quantitativa Regional (AQRIREA), an IZA Research Fellow since May 2007, and member of the editorial team of the European Journal of Development Research since 2012. He has also acted as consultant for the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and UNESCO.

Dr. Ramos received his PhD in economics from the University of Barcelona in 1999.

The economic crisis of 2008 hit Spain with a disproportionate effect on those in temporary work, revealing underlying gaps in the policy framework meant to support the inclusion of both immigrants and other vulnerable individuals in the Spanish labor market. This report assesses how well recent reforms are filling these gaps and helping immigrants and other disadvantaged workers move into middle-skilled jobs.
