Eleanor Sohnen is a Policy Analyst at the Migration Policy Institute, where she works for the Regional Migration Study Group.

Her research interests include the interaction of source-country education and workforce systems and migration, and the social and economic integration of intraregional labor migrants in Latin America.

Ms. Sohnen previously served as a consultant to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), implementing workforce development and capacity-building projects in public employment services and migration management. While at IDB, she co-authored Crossing Borders for Work: New Trends and Policies in Labor Migration in Latin America and the Caribbean, On the Other Side of the Fence: Changing Dynamics of Migration in the Americas (MPI, 2010), and The Financial Crisis and Latin American and Caribbean Labor Markets: Risks and Policy Responses (IDB, 2009).

She holds a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University’s Nitze School of Advanced International Studies in international relations and international economics with a focus on Latin America and development economics, and a bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies from Oberlin College. She has also studied at the Universidad de Chile, the Pontificia Católica Universidad de Chile, and the Universidad de Buenos Aires. Prior to earning her master’s degree, she was an editorial coordinator and freelance writer for a newsweekly in the San Francisco Bay area.
