Aid to Asia from Families Abroad: The Role of Remittances in Post-Tsunami Relief For Immediate Release With estimates of more than two million people displaced in tsunami-devastated Asia, financial aid from migrants abroad will play a critical role in immediate humanitarian aid and long-term reconstruction. The Migration Information Source, an online resource at www.migrationinformation.org, provides a collection of articles that outline the role of remittances in assisting countries of origin as well as the impact that the devastation is likely to have on migration debates. It also features data on immigrants in the United States from affected countries, including states where migrants have settled.
