Breakfast Briefing with the Senior Counsel and Team Leader for Border Security,
National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States
[The 9/11 Commission]

Friday, September 10, 2004
8:30 - 10:00 a.m.

The 9/11 Commission’s report has been dominating public and Congressional debate and will continue to do so in the weeks ahead.

Susan Ginsburg served as the senior staff official for border security issues addressed by the 9/11 Commission and is familiar with the workings of the Commission as it addressed immigration matters in its investigation and deliberations. Therefore, she will speak from a unique vantage point about the implications for immigration policy and procedures of the Commission's findings and recommendations.

She will also address the 200-page staff report entitled "9/11 Terrorist Travel" that was issued after the Commission report and elaborates more fully some of the key facts that are set out in the Commission's July report and led to its recommendations.

Moderator: Doris Meissner, Senior Fellow, Migration Policy Institute

Where: 1400 16th Street, NW, Conference Rooms A & B (lobby level)

RSVP: Please RSVP with acceptances only to Claire Suen at events@migrationpolicy.org or 202/266-1929.

MPI's report, America's Challenge: Domestic Security, Civil Liberties and National Unity After September 11, examines the government's post-September 11 immigration measures from three distinct perspectives: their effectiveness in fighting terrorism; their impact on civil liberties; and their effect on America's sense of community as a nation of immigrants. It also presents a comprehensive analysis of the individuals detained in the wake of September 11 and their experiences.
