8:30 am - 10:00 am
Persons living in Israel and the West Bank and Gaza Strip are coming under ever-greater pressure. The Palestinian Intifada and subsequent Israeli response have led to increased stress on the lives of both Israelis and Palestinians. In addition, the recent construction of an Israeli security barrier and the prospective transfer of authority in the Gaza Strip have contributed to further instability in the region.
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the West Bank and Gaza Strip monitors the actions of Israel as the “occupying power” under the Geneva Conventions as well as the actions of Palestinians. Additionally, ICRC works in the region to assess and address humanitarian assistance needs in response to the ongoing situation.
