The Supreme Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and Immigration Policy Events > Event Announcement

March 19, 2004 Panelist Bios

Two recent Supreme Court immigration decisions have had a major impact on immigrants' rights. Hoffman Plastic Compounds v. NLRB held that undocumented workers fired in violation of federal labor law are not entitled to back-pay. Demore v. Kim rejected a constitutional challenge to mandatory detention of permanent resident aliens as they go through removal proceedings.

This briefing will focus on the role of the Board of Immigration Appeals, its relationship to the federal courts, and how U.S. immigration law and policy are currently being shaped and challenged in US courts.
