RAINER MÜNZ is a Senior Fellow at the Hamburg Institute of International Economics. His research and work focuses on population and migration, including labour migration and migration policy. Until 1992, Professor Münz was director of the Institute of Demography at the Austrian Academy of Science. Between 1992 and 2003 he was head of the Department of Demography at Humboldt University, Berlin and a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Mathematics of Finance, Technical University, Vienna (2001-2002). Prior to that post, he was visiting professor at the Universities of Bamberg (1986), UC Berkeley (1986, 1989,), Frankfurt (1988), Klagenfurt (1996-98), Vienna (2001-02) and Zurich (1992).

Professor Münz was a member of the German Immigration Commission (the "Süssmuth commission") and served as Austrian national rapporteur for the UN sponsored International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo (1994). He holds membership on several boards and advisory boards including the International Organization for Migration (IOM, Geneva), Center for Migration, Integration and Citizenship at Oxford University (COMPAS, Oxford, UK), International Metropolis Project (Ottawa - Den Haag), Association of German Pension Insurers (VDR, Frankfurt-Berlin, Germany).

Professor Münz is the author of several books and chapters in edited volumes. The most recent of which is Migrationsreport 2004 (Migration Report 2004)

DEMETRIOS G. PAPADEMETRIOU is President of MPI. His work concentrates on the North American borders and migration agenda, immigrant settlement and integration, and migration and management throughout the advanced industrial world. Previously, he was a Senior Associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where he directed (1993-1998) and co-directed (1998-2001) the International Migration Policy Program. Prior to joining the Carnegie Endowment, Dr. Papademetriou was the Director for Immigration Policy and Research at the U.S. Department of Labor and the Chair of the Secretary of Labor's Immigration Policy Task Force. From 1991-1996, he concurrently served as the Chair of the Migration Committee of the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). He has written over 150 articles, book chapters, and magazine pieces on the subject, as well as more than two dozen books, monographs, and major reports.
