Event Summary
Presentation

On January 5, 2004, the Department of Homeland Security will implement the U.S. Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology (US-VISIT) program, an entry-exit program to screen people coming into the United States. At 115 airports and 14 seaports nationwide, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers will use fingerprint scanning and take digital photographs to verify the identity of arriving visitors and compare this information against watch lists. US-VISIT Director Jim Williams and Deputy Director Robert Mocny will give the first Washington, D.C. presentation of how well the system functions based on their own visits to airports. They will also outline a vision for the future of the program at a briefing at the Migration Policy Institute hosted by Doris Meissner, MPI senior fellow and former INS commissioner. A final commentator will be announced.
